  RE3 Service Dusseldorf - Dortmund (Rhein-Emscher Express)
  • RE3 Düsseldorf - Duisburg - Oberhausen - Gelsenkirchen - Dortmund (- Hamm)
Activity: Dusseldorf to Dortmund (0745 departure)

Created: 06-Feb-2006. Latest version: 08-Feb-2006.

You're in charge of the 0745 RE3 service, the Rhein-Emscher Express, Dusseldorf Hbf to Dortmund Hbf, via Duisberg, Oberhausen, Gelsenkirchen and Wanne-Eickel. Regarding MSTS, it may appear that, sitting at Dusseldorf before you depart, has frozen. If you've got some lower-spec hardware like webTrainSim, it takes a while for the graphics card to gather in all the scenery at Dusseldorf - just give things a little while to settle. Then when you're going through the underpass, MSTS might again appear to have frozen while it gathers in more scenery. Patience!

This version of the activity requires a little more adjustment of timings and more traffic on the Oberhausen to Gelsenkirchen section. By the way, be careful if you want to change the consist in this activity - Dusseldorf platform 14 is shorter than other platforms (and that's the reason you're driving a shorter train than usual).

Here are webTrainSim's timings: D-Flughafen 0752, Duisberg 0804, Oberhausen 0814, Gelenkirchen 0836, Castrop-Rauxel 0855, Dortmund 0907.

This activity has been compiled into a zip file with Route Riter so you can see what files you need to install. There's a text (TXT) file included in the zip which lists all the rolling stock used in this activity so browse it to check you've got everything installed. NB: also check you've installed your rolling stock in the same folders as those used by webTrainSim. Any suggested or necessary changes to rolling stock are mentioned in the Rolling Stock list.

To download, go to webTrainSim downloads and look under Wupper Express 10 for this activity.

Activity: Dortmund to Dusseldorf (2003 departure)

Created: 16-Feb-2006. Latest version: 16-Feb-2006.

You're in charge of RE3 service, the Rhein-Emscher Express, Dortmund to Dusseldorf Hbf, via Wanne-Eickel, Gelsenkirchen, Oberhausen and Duisberg. Departure from Dortmund is at 2003.

Here are webTrainSim's timings: DO-Mengede 2013, Castrop-Rauxel 2021, Herne 2032, Wanne-Eickel 2038, Gelsenkirchen 2049, E-Altenessen 2056, Oberhausen 2109, Duisberg 2021, D-Flughafen 2135, Dusseldorf 2144. You can thus see that you can throw away both MSTS' and VRR's timetables and that the trip is not going to be as smooth as first appears for a premier RE3 service. As always, be patient. The weather is Winter Snow which enables you to better sight the signals so be attentive and don't try to blow all the cobwebs from the thyristors whenever you have a clear. Because webTrainSim was paying so much attention to the signals and jotting down his notes, he hasn't yet had the opportunity to take any photos of this trip.
