  E101C, E101 Whiskas and E101 Bayer

webTrainSim used Kenji Kimura's cab, 145Cab2.zip (21-Apr-02, 1.71Mb), for DB 145 & DB 101 locos, available from TheTrain.de. Anticipating (i.e. taking a guess) that the cab would be used in several locos, webTrainSim placed the cab files in their own sub-folder, DB145Cab2, under Common.Cab. However, this meant a bit of extra work and he had to load DB145Cab2.cvf into WordPad to prefix each ACE graphic file with ..\\..\\Common.Cab\\DB145Cab2\\.

After that bit of work, it's easy to set the CabView line in any loco's ENGine file:

  • CabView ( "..\\..\\Common.Cab\\DB145Cab2\\DB145Cab2.cvf" )

For sounds, use Wespe's set in E101.zip (31-Oct-03, 0.558Mb), from TheTrain.de. Wespe has already set up the SMS files for use in a Common.Snd sub-folder, E101, so make that sub-folder and extract (drag'n'drop) the WAV files from the zip into there. Then in any BR 101 (e.g., E101) loco's ENGine file, change the Sound lines to read as:

  • Sound ( "..\\..\\Common.Snd\\E101\\E101Eng.sms" )
  • Sound ( "..\\..\\Common.Snd\\E101\\E101Cab.sms" )

Note as of November '04, a new BR 101 cab became available: Fuehrerstand BR-101 by The CabMaker (Markus Schaufler) (2.6Mb, 12-Nov-04), available from TheTrain.de.

The values used below are from www.fernbahn.de and www.br146.de apart from the dynamic brake settings which are guesstimates by webTrainSim.

  AR-DB 101 030 cab and sounds

Cab aliased to DB145Cab2.cvf in Common.Cab, as for E101C and E101 Whiskas.

Has its sounds in its own Sounds sub-folder, except that if checked with ConBuilder, you'll get an error that NOTFOUND.wav is missing.

Check the ENGine file and use values as above for E101C.

Check the BrakeEquipmentType and BrakeSystemType lines are as follows:

  • BrakeEquipmentType( "Air_twin_pipe, Distributor" )
  • BrakeSystemType( "Air_twin_pipe" )

DB 101 030 is used in the Graphics15 consist to pull ten EC carriages so you'll also need to ensure that the Distributor parameter is in g15_ecbistro1kl.wag, g15_ecwagen1kl.wag and g15_ecwagen2kl.wag (these carriages are in the g15_icwagen subfolder:

  • BrakeEquipmentType( "Handbrake, Triple_valve, Auxilary_reservoir, Emergency_brake_reservoir,Distributor" )
  • BrakeSystemType( "Air_twin_pipe" )

While fixing the EC wagens, you might as well do the same fix for the other carriages in this folder or make a note to do them later.

  ThoPhil BR 110_3 loco

A sound check in ConBuilder for TP_110_3VRT.eng will let you know that there are a number of path prefixes, ../../acela/sound/, that are unnecessary in 110cab.sms and 110eng.sms so open these SMS files in WordPad and remove ../../acela/sound/.

DB BR 111 093 by FelixTrains

A sound check of ftr_dbbr111093.eng in ConBuilder will inform you that that ../../ACELA/Sound/x_couple_auto1.wav and ../../ACELA/Sound/a_e_comp2.wav in BR111Eng.sms and BR111Cab.sms don't require the ../../ACELA/Sound/ path prefix so remove them using WordPad.

  DB 120 cab and sounds

You need Macus Shaufler's latest cab, Fstd-BR120.zip (2.764Mb, 07-Dec-04), from TheTrain.de. Make a Cabview sub-folder and extract (drag'n'drop) the files from the zip. Rename the CabView line in tserdb120121.eng to:

  • CabView ( NG-BR120.cvf )

Place the sound set by Wespe, E120.zip (05-Nov-03, 1.170Mb) from TheTrain.de, into the loco's own Sounds sub-folder. However a check by ConBuilder will reveal that E120eng.sms has a couple of errors. Open E120eng.sms in WordPad and scroll almost to the bottom of the file to take out the ../../common.snd/E110/ prefixing x_E120_Random4.wav, x_E120_Random5.wav, x_E120_Random6.wav and x_E120_Random7.wav.

webTrainSim suggests you check the ENGine file and make the following adjustments for more prototypical performance. Data was gleaned from tech specs at www.br120.de:

    ..............
   Mass ( 83.2t )
    ..............
   MaxBrakeForce( 83kN )
    ..............
    ..............
   MaxPower ( 5600kW )

   DynamicBrakesMinUsableSpeed( 7 )
   DynamicBrakesMaximumEffectiveSpeed( 55 )
   DynamicBrakesMaximumForce( 150kN )

   DynamicBrakesCutInSpeed( 9 )
   DynamicBrakesMaxAirBrakePressure ( 100 )
   DynamicBrakesFadingSpeed( 25 )

  E145 Rheinland electric loco

This loco was originally modelled by MadMike and has been repainted by Ingo Wittenberg. It's in download file E145Rheinland.zip (31-Oct-02, 3.568Mb) from TheTrain.de.

There's a specific cab for this loco, 145Cab2.zip (1.71Mb, 21-Apr-02), available from TheTrain.de.

If you want, Wespe has a set of E145 sounds, E145.zip (1.199Mb, 05-Nov-03), at TheTrain.de.

  E146 electric loco

Update 15-Apr-2006: Hibu BR146 sounds and brake repair - see below.

You'll need to make a change to the folder name for loco DB 146 106, DB_146_106-0.zip (09-Jul-04, 1.43Mb). To eliminate any problems with spaces in the folder name, change it to DB_146_106-0.

Note: the BR 146.0 series locos are passenger versions of the BR 145 freight loco while the BR 146.1 series are passenger versions of the BR 185 freight loco manufactured by Bombardier (from www.br146.de).

webTrainSim used the cab and sounds from the TXLogisitic BR 185 loco - just copy this loco's Cabview and Sound sub-folders to the DB_146_106-0 folder.

Then you'll have to load the BR 146's ENGine file, 146106-0.eng, into WordPad to change the Cabview and Sound lines as follows:

    ..............
   Sound ( "E185eng.sms" )
    ..............
   CabView ( "E189cab.cvf" )
    ..............
   Sound ( "E185cab.sms" )
    ..............

If you fixed the aliasing problem in E185eng.sms for the TX Logistics BR 185, you're finished.

If not, you'll need to open E185eng.sms in your Sound sub-folder under DB_146_106-0 and change every instance of ../../common.snd/E152/x_E152 to x_185.

Update 15-Apr-2006: Hibu's BR146 sounds, BR146_Sound.zip (2.16Mb, 12-Apr-06), can be downloaded from The-Train.de (link should take you to the download page). Extract the files from the zip into the BR146's Sound sub-folder. You'll then need to open the ENGine file, 146106-0.eng, and change the Sound lines as follows:

    ..............
   Sound ( "146Eng.sms" )
    ..............
   Sound ( "146Cab.sms" )
    ..............

This sound set is very realistic with the sound of the motors slowly increasing with speed; and there's some chatter from the train control centre but ignore them!

While you're in the ENGine file, there is a fix required for the brakes otherwise you'll take several kilometres to stop - just copy the following:

   Comment ( ** 13-Apr-2006 : BMH : Some values below replaced ** )
   EmergencyBrakeResMaxPressure( 150 )
   TripleValveRatio( 2.5 )
   MaxReleaseRate( 5 )
   MaxApplicationRate( 25 )
   MaxAuxilaryChargingRate( 20 )
   EmergencyResCapacity( 8 )
   EmergencyResChargingRate( 4 )
   BrakeCylinderPressureForMaxBrakeBrakeForce( 71 )
   EmergencyResVolumeMultiplier( 1.15 )
   BrakeAirPressureGainInResForOnePoundFromPipe( 0.25 )
    ..............

Note: you can tune up the Graphics15 BR 146 in the same way as above, checking the Brake configuration, MaxPower, and so on. Then extract Hibu's BR 146 sounds and edit the Sound lines above.

  AR-DB 152 055 cab

Install the cab files from Kenji Kimura's E152 cab, E152-2.zip (2.714Mb, 24-Jan-02), from TheTrain.de.

The loco has its sounds in its own Sounds sub-folder, except that if checked with ConBuilder, you'll get an error that NOTFOUND.wav is missing.

The following are some values that bring the loco to a more prototypical performance:

    ..............
   Mass ( 86.7t )
    ..............
   MaxBrakeForce( 87kN )
    ..............
    ..............
   MaxPower ( 6400kW )
   MaxForce ( 300kN )
   MaxContinuousForce ( 240kN )
   MaxVelocity ( 75mph )
    ..............
    ..............
   DynamicBrakesMinUsableSpeed( 7 )
   DynamicBrakesMaximumEffectiveSpeed( 55 )
   DynamicBrakesMaximumForce( 150kN )
   DynamicBrakesResistorCurrentLimit ( 750 )
   DynamicBrakesCutInSpeed( 9 )
   DynamicBrakesMaxAirBrakePressure ( 100 )
   DynamicBrakesFadingSpeed( 25 )
   DynamicBrakesDelayTimeBeforeEngaging ( 1 )
   DynamicBrakesMaximumSpeedForFadeOut ( 320 )
   DynamicBrakesEffectAtMaximumFadeOut( 0 )
   DynamicBrakesHigherSpeedCurveExponent( 7.5 )
   DynamicBrakesLowerSpeedCurveExponent( 0.92 )
   DynamicBrakesNumberOfControllerNotches( 0 )
   DynamicBrakeHasAutoBailOff( 1 )
    ..............
BrakesEngineControllers( "Independent, Train, Dynamic, Blended" )
    ..............

You'll see that this ENGine file doesnt contain the full code for Train and Engine braking so copy the section beginning

  • TrainBrakesControllerMinPressureReduction( 6 )

through to

  • TrainBrakesControllerFullServicePressureDrop( 28 )

from a loco such as the BR 101.

As well, the EngineControllers section should be completely replaced, again from a loco such as the BR 101.

  DB BR 182 Taurus

For a successful install of Andreas Them's DB BR 182 Taurus electric loco, you need his Taurus.zip (25-May-02, 705kb). For the cab, sounds and two texture files, you also need hia OBB 1016 loco in download ÖBB_1016_Bmpz.exe (12-Jun-03, 6.238Mb), both from TheTrain.de.

Assuming you install the Taurus loco into its folder, Taurus, you need to copy the Cab and Sound folders from the 1016 loco's folder, 1016.

As mentioned in the readme for the Taurus, you also need to copy 1016innen.ace and 182unt.ace from the 1016 folder to the Taurus folder. Do a check with ConBuilder to verify the copying and pasting.

There is another Taurus by Simon Hellekalek, 182db.zip, but webTrainSim couldn't find the extra shape files in another download, so Andreas Them's model has been used.

webTrainSim found there to be a missing bracket after Description section which causes palpitations in MSTS.

  TXLogistic BR 185

A bracket is missing from the end of ENGine file and have just noticed that there are two brackets after the Description section - remove one.

In E185Eng.sms, replace ../../common.snd/E152/x_E152 with x_185

G15_BXF796 WAG files - remove quotes

Quotes have to be removed from the Wagon and WagonShape lines in all WAG files otherwise you won't see these carriages listed in ConBuilder. You'll find the WAGon files in folders g15_bxf796-orange and g15_bxf796-rot.

Graphics15 S-Bahn and Regionalbahn WAG and ENG files - remove quotes

Quotes have to be removed from the Wagon and WagonShape lines in all WAG and ENG files otherwise you won't see these carriages and steering cars listed in ConBuilder. You'll find the WAGon and ENGine files in folder g15_s-bahnwagen (there are a number of them so be patient).

DSsteuerwagen carriage and drivable steering car

Download file g15_bxf796-orange.zip contains a steering car (driving trailer) which is driveable in MSTS with the addition of cab and sound (see . So using the ENGine file, g15_bxf796.eng, one can make a double-decker steering car drivable in MSTS out of DSsteuerwagen.wag in download DoppelstockSteuerwagen.zip.

These are the steps:

  • Copy g15_bxf796.eng from folder g15_bxf796-orange to folder DSsteuerwagen
  • Rename g15_bxf796.eng to DSsteuerwagen.eng
  • Start WordPad, open DSsteuerwagen.eng and change the following lines (open DSsteuerwagen.wag in WordPad too if you want for reference:
    • Wagon ( DSsteuerwagen
    • WagonShape ( bt.s )
    • Size ( 3.16m 4.23m 26.10m )
    • Engine ( DSsteuerwagen
    • Wagon ( DSsteuerwagen )
    • Name ( "Doppelstockwagen Steuerwagen" )
  Vossloh G2000 diesel-hydraulic loco

The official page from Vossloh says it has a 2-speed transmission so webTrainSim needs to fix the ENG file - details soon.

   Comment ( ** 30-Sep-04 : BMH : Two-speed hydraulic gearbox, i.e. one gear change. ** )

  ICE-3 403 tune up

After installing this ICE-3 trainset, download CRS's update, STP_DB_403-CSR.zip (0.363Mb, 12-Oct-05), which can be downloaded from this page, Update for STP_DB_403 by Stefan Pufler, at The-Train.de. The simplest method to extract these files is to drag'n'drop them into the ICE-3 403's folder, overwriting the original ones. However there are parameters whose values require changing.

An eight-car ICE-3 consist has four ENGine files: ICE3_403_0.eng, ICE3_403_2.eng, ICE3_403_7.eng and ICE3_403_5.eng. webTrainSim has made the changes shown in red in each of these ENGine files:

Update 30-Apr-2006: Hibu has an updated sound set for the ICE-3 trainset, STP_DB_403_Sound.zip (2.97Mb, 10-Apr-06), available from The-Train.de (link is to download page). This is how webTrainSim went about installing the Hibu sounds:

  • had a look, and translated, Hibu's instructions, noting the archive contained ENGine and WAGon files for the ICE-3 trainset (made a mental note NOT to copy these so webTrainSim's tune up settings, such as those above, were not overwritten)
  • moved the old sound set to a temporary folder (just in case...)
  • extracted Hibu's sounds to the ICE-3 Sound folder
  • used Hibu's ENGine and WAGon files as a reference to work out which SMS files were used by the various pieces of rolling stock
  • edited each webTrainSim ENGine and WAGon file to change the Sound lines as appropriate.
  • used ConBuilder to check and noted that ICE3_WagOut.sms needed editing to change 60_120.wav to 060_120.wav.
  ICE-2 tune up

webTrainSim has used the E_Triebwagen Sound V2.0 by Werner Spieker, ETri_Snd.zip (02-Nov-03, 0.666Mb), to replace the trainset author's original sounds (Acela?). ETri_Snd.zip is available from from TheTrain.de. You can extract the files either to their own Sound sub-folder under the trainset's folder, STP_DB_ICE2, or you can create a new folder under Common.Snd - webTrainSim did the latter as you can see in the Sound parameter lines below. If you don't install the E_Trib sounds into Common.Snd, your Sound parameter lines will simply read Sound ( ETCab.sms ) and Sound( ETEng.sms ).

The ICE2 trainset has two ENGine files, ICE2_Steuer2.eng and ICE2_Steuer1.eng. Each should have the following:

   Comment ( ** 24-Sep-04 : BMH : Check MaxPower, etc. ** )

  DB 218 904 sound files

SMS files, DB225cab.sms and DB225eng.sms, need editing to insert a full aliasing path to the default GP38 sounds.

Open WordPad for each SMS file - they're in the Sound sub-folder of DB218-904 and you'll see where the author has omitted ../../gp38/sound/ from some GP38 sounds, especially on PlayOneShot ( 2 File lines.

  V60 1009 and V360 159-8 diesel locos

The default cab used in the g15_v60 and g15_v360 locos is the default MSTS GP38 cab.

A better option is Blackman's cab, DR_V60CabNeu.zip (06-Oct-02, 4.255Mb), available from TheTrain.de. Extract all the files from this zip into the Cabview sub-folder under the g15_v60 folder.

The V60 and V360 locos have hydraulic transmission but as set up by Graphics15 do not use this type of transmission. So that's a job for webTrainSim to look at.

  Silber Steuerwagen

It's electric!! In strieb2.eng in folder Silber, scroll down to the Type line and make it Type ( Electric ). Now it'll appear in ConBuilder in the Electric loco category.
