Wupper Express - Monchengladbach to Dortmund (RE4)

About to depart Monchengladbach Hbf.

You're taking the 0810 RE4 Wupper Express service from Monchengladbach to Dortmund Hbf.

In the latest version of this activity, you're in charge of orange-liveried BR 143 582.

This activity has been tested so give it a try yourself (last updated 21-May-04).

Running alongside the stopping service (which left ahead of you), you'll see how MSTS "controls" AI trains and find it fairly difficult to catch one even though it's limited to the same speed as you, 120 km/hr.

If you time your driving to arrive at Dusseldorf Hbf at 0850, you'll be part of the morning traffic. Arriving at Gruiten at about 0905, you'll see the ICE SG-Ohligs to Dortmund service arrive and remember that it will be on the main so be ready for the red as you come back to the main. If you arrive at Hagen Hbf at about 1005, you'll be part of the mid-morning traffice there.

Be careful at Gruiten where you leave the main express line and switch to the slow tracks, then come back onto the express line. Gruiten is the junction with the SG-Ohligs line and you might suddenly find yourself facing a red since the ICE SG-Ohligs to Dortmund service has right of way. So do a quick save back near Hochdahl (you won't see this platform on your Next Station display but you will see W-Vohwinkel (the next staion after Gruiten).

Interestingly MSTS times the RE4 service within a few minutes of the actual RE4 timetable schedule. However, on his first run, webTrainSim arrived at Dortmund Hbf at about 1015.

This activity has been compiled into a zip file with Route Riter so you can see what files you need to install.

Crossing the Rhine.

Crossing the Rhine and our opposite number.

Got 'im! He's the one who was causing those reds between Monchengladbach and Neuss.

Got 'im! He's the one who was causing those reds between Monchengladbach and Neuss. That's not our mess, by the way.

Our Wupper Express ICE2 overtakes a double-decker set not far from NE-Rheinpark Centre on our way into Dusseldorf.

At W-Barmen we cross the Mochengladbach-Dortmund service.

Rolling into Dusseldord Hbf. On this trip we're in charge of an ICE2 trainset.

On a later run, we're in control of an ICE2 trainset, pictured here at Dusseldorf Hbf.

We have to wait for the (Koln) SG-Ohligs to Dortmund ICE service at Gruiten.
A busy time as we roll into W-Vohwinkel. On our left, an ICE service from Dortmund is also pulling in, and on our right an ET423 S-Bahn service pulls out for Dortmund.

Instead of being in charge of an ICE set, we've been allocated a consist headed by orange BR 143 582.
