Early morning freight BO-Langendreer to Neuss
 |
| One of the dignitaries starts feeling hungry at Bochum. |
You've got a freight double-headed by BR 101s (even thought the player consist is named wDTS BR152... - see below) to take from BO-Langendreer to Neuss Hbf. Included in your consist are three carriages of rail officials and potential DB Cargo customers so look after them all (especially that Train Control Manager who's also on board).
You'll find that your locos will give plenty of acceleration but if you're using webTrainSim's settings for braking (both air and dynamic, and more than adequate for passenger concists up to 160 km/hr), you can get into trouble!
The first occasion for possible trouble is just after you get onto the main line. As is usual, coming into Bochum, Essen, Duisberg and Dusseldorf each have yellows before the platforms.
There's also a nasty yellow around the corner from MH-Stryum (you won't sight the predictive signal until too late!). Other yellows to watch for are at kilometre posts 55 and 47 (when you cross to the slow tracks). To give you a better opportunity to site the predictive signals from 1.5 km or more, the weather was tried as Summer Clear but Winter Clear was just tested and it's quite good, if not better.
Don't worry too much about timings in this activity. Just try to reduce the number of times you go into emergency braking!
You might want to check the tech specs for your BR 101s (use ConBuilder to put in what BR 101s you have if you haven't got the Whiskas and Bayer liveried one) - see Small Fixes for BR101s. If you want to later try a pair of BR 152s at the head of your train, have a look at Small Fixes - AR BR 152.
On a technical note for Activity Writers, webTrainSim originally had stops at Bochum, Mulheim, Duisberg and D-Flughafen. However, he came across a problem he'd orginally discovered on Graphics15's U79 route. On one stop at U79 (luckily not far into the trip), he was continually being told every time he stopped (after checking for everything under the sun in Activity Editor) that he had passed a red. Out of good misfortune, he swapped to the number two end of the tram and found this back part was still in the following track section which, of course, MSTS had flagged as having a red. The same problem came about - probably for the same reason with this long train - in this Wupper 8 activity so all platform stops except at the end at Neuss were removed.

This activity has been compiled into a zip file with Route Riter so you can see what files you need to install. There's a text (TXT) file included in the zip - this file lists all the rolling stock used in this activity so browse it to check you've got everything installed. NB: also check you've installed your rolling stock in the same folders as those used by webTrainSim. Any suggested or necessary changes to rolling stock are mentioned in the Rolling Stock list below.
To download, click here and scroll to the Wupper Express 8 Activities section.
Rolling stock
The rolling stock listed below, used in Wupper 7 activities, is available from the TheTrain.de library. There's no need to download all this rolling stock in one session - download one of webTrainSim's activities (packed with Route Riter) and refer to the rolling stock list in the activity's zip file.
An excellent reference for MSTS German Railways rolling stock is Philip Chesters' Trainsimming series for German Railways (3 volumes) available from Train-sim.com and TheTrain.de.
In most cases to install, all that's required is to extract the files from the zip into the folder specified by the author. However, in cases where the folder name has spaces, webTrainSim follows his rule of not using folder names with spaces and substitutes the underscore character.
Another job to do is to check the ENGine or WAGon files. Although not mentioned on the Small Fixes 16 & 17 pages, webTrainSim edits each ENGine file to check:
- no zero values in the Coupling section
- MaxBrakeForce set to 10% of mass so an 80 tonne loco has 80kN
- MaxPower and MaxForce are reasonable
- checks the Sound and CabView lines and the folder to see if they exist (also a check with ConBuilder reveals any sound and/or cab problems).
- if there are major changes required, check the Small Fixes 16 & Small Fixes 17 pages - if the problem is not solved there, please let me know.
In case webTrainSim installs some rolling stock in a folder different than suggested by the author, check the rolling stock list included in each activity's zip file (produced by Route Riter). webTrainSim often has such changes in a Small Fixes page but he probably won't remember all changes he makes.
